Denmark generated 42.1 percent of its electricity from wind power in 2015

Denmark generated 42.1 percent of its electricity from wind turbines in 2015, system operator Energinet.dk said on Friday, setting a world record and putting a 2020 target of 50 percent in sight.

“This is the highest figure ever and the highest proportion for any country,” Energinet.dk said.

Denmark is home to the largest wind turbine maker, Vestas , the largest offshore wind farm developer DONG Energy and the wind power division of Germany’s Siemens .

The percentage of electricity produced by wind increased from 39.1 percent in 2014, when the International Energy Agency put Portugal and Spain behind Denmark at 24 and 20 percent, respectively.
