Wind Energy Technology Center Successfully Presented in Berlin

The Asia-Pacific Weeks Wind Energy Conference took place on October 12, 2009 in Berlin, Germany. It was a unique opportunity for the main German, Chinese and Asian players to participate in a high profile meeting focusing on the expanding industry of wind energy. Governments and ministries, business and cultural associations, companies, universities and research institutions, foundations and non-governmental organizations took part in a series of official meetings and conferences to discuss the latest developments in the wind energy sector.

The presentations and workshops during the conference primarily dealt with the market growth in wind power in China and its corresponding challenges. Manufacturing concepts were presented and strategies for entering the market and investing in wind energy equipment were discussed.

Torsten Muuß, Global Technical Manager for Wind Energy from SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, was one of the main speakers during this conference presenting the new SGS Wind Energy Technology Center (WETC) in Tianjin, China.

The SGS Wind Energy Technology Center in China mainly focuses on Rotor Blade Testing. As blade failures can have severe impact on safety, turbine downtime and public exposure, a thorough validation of the blade through full-scale testing by an independent third party is indispensable.

The WETC provides a complete set of full-scale blade testing capabilities. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology for load application and blade measurements, the SGS test center can perform static and fatigue tests for various purposes:
– Certification testing according to IEC 61400-23
– Blade design validation
– Manufacturing quality testing
– Validation of repairs and design changes
