Syrian-Spanish Cooperation in Wind Energy

Minister of Electricity Ahmad Qussai Kayyali discussed on Friday with the Spanish Minister of State for Trade Silvia Iranzo cooperation between the two sides, mainly in the field of electric energy.

The two sides agreed that the Spanish side finance a wind farm project to generate electric energy with a capacity of 50 megawatt. The wind power project will be the first in Syria.

During a current visit to Spain, Kayyali toured a number of Spanish power stations, as well as a number of solar, wind power and gas stations for generating electrical energy. Spain is a pioneer in the field of renewable electrical energy generation.

Spain is the world’s fourth biggest producer of wind energy, after the United States, Germany and China, and is set to achieve a goal of generating 30 per cent of its electricity needs from renewables by 2010, with half of that coming from wind turbines.
