Wind power Vestas establishes new sales office in Chile

Vestas Chile will be responsible for all activities within sales, installation and service of wind farm plants in the country. Mr. Marcelo Tokman Ramos, Head of Vestas Government Relations in Latin America and Regional Director for Vestas in South America (excluding Brazil), will head the recently created sales unit.

Having excellent wind resources, Chile has a great potential for the development of wind energy, which can help the country to reduce its high reliance on energy imports.

In 2009, the country experienced an important growth in wind power with the installation of over 140 MW of new capacity . As of 31 December 2009, Vestas had delivered approximately 115 MW to the Chilean market.

According to the Chilean Government’s plan, the level of renewable energies in Chile should reach 20 per cent by 2020. Currently, there are more than 2.000 MW under development in the country.

Moreover, as the global leader in wind energy, we are fully committed to support the Chilean Government in reaching its renewable energy targets through the development of wind power in the country”.

Vestas in Latin America

Vestas has been present in the Latin American continent since 1990. As per 31 December 2009, Vestas had delivered a total capacity of more than 430 MW to Latin American countries. In addition to the new sales office in Chile, Vestas has currently established sales offices in Argentina and in Brazil.

Vestas employs today 50 people in Latin America and plays an active role in establishing a supply chain of local sub-suppliers delivering products and services at the different phases of the development of a wind power plant and creating local high-quality green jobs in the region.

Vestas Mediterranean

Vestas Mediterranean is one of the seven Sales Business Units in the Vestas Group and it manages all sales, construction and service operations in the countries of the Mediterranean area, Middle East, Latin America, Caribbean as well as approximately 70 per cent of the African continent.

As of 31 December 2009, this Sales Business Unit delivered a cumulative capacity of 8,569 MW and it had a workforce of 2,900 highly skilled and fully committed employees in the Mediterranean region including production capabilities in Italy and Spain.
