Urban Green Energy, the world leader in small vertical axis wind turbines, announces the installation of the first 4kW vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) in Illinois at Valley Baptist Church in Oswego. A different kind of wind turbine, a VAWT’s design generates power regardless of the direction of the wind, making it ideal for a suburban area with variable wind patterns.
A gift from the congregation to the church, the UGE wind turbine, which is mounted on a 23-foot tower next to the sanctuary, will help to drastically reduce the church’s energy bills and eventually allow the church to sell energy back to the power company through the grid. On a more spiritual note, the VAWT is another step in the church’s mission to reduce its carbon footprint and continue forward in the “Green Movement” throughout the Chicagoland area.
“Urban Green Energy is all about making alternative energy accessible for everyone,” said Nick Blitterswyk, CEO of Urban Green Energy. “I cannot think of a more perfect place to spread the gospel of alternative energy than at Valley Baptist Church.”
While Urban Green Energy vertical axis wind turbines are eligible for a 30% federal incentive as well as individual state rebates and tax credits for business and residential use, the church, as a non-profit, does not qualify for such incentives. “The fact that the 4kW was a gift from the congregation shows that alternative energy is an issue close to the hearts of many people,” continued Blitterswyk.
UGE is a company that takes its sense of responsibility as a good corporate citizen very seriously. For example, the company has donated it’s a vertical wind turbine to provide power to the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, the orphan care initiative that is sponsored by Madonna. Similarly, the company is contributing a vertical wind turbine to a girls’ school in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya.
Urban Green Energy has more credentials and certifications than any other company in the vertical axis turbine industry. In fact, Urban Green Energy is one of the first manufacturers in the world to receive certification for its turbines’ power, safety, and noise level.
UGE has designed and manufactured 600W, 1kW and 4kW vertical axis wind turbines, as well as wind/solar hybrid street lamps, and has customers in 31 countries around the world.
