OCAS and RES Americas Announce Partnership

The regional exclusivity covers the northwest states of Oregon and Washington, and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec.

The OCAS solution keeps wind farm strobe lights off at all times unless an aircraft is detected on an unsafe heading toward the wind turbines. The patented OCAS warning system is mounted on the turbine tower to detect approaching aircraft and activates the wind turbine strobe lights for a primary visual warning as required by the FAA and Transport Canada.

If the aircraft does not take measures to avoid the wind turbines, a secondary audio warning is delivered to the pilot’s radio. By keeping the system off until an aircraft is detected, OCAS leaves skies free from light pollution, decreasing public annoyance, lowering the visual impact of the wind power project while increasing safety for the aviation community.

The OCAS solution is the first and only Aircraft Detection System (ADS) or Audio Visual Warning System (AVWS) approved and tested by Transport Canada and the Federal Aviation Administration for use in Canada and the United States.

"I am extremely excited to team up with an industry leader like RES to help launch OCAS technology into the North American wind energy market. With our first North American project currently being deployed in Talbot, Ontario, I am confident that the combination of RES’ development and construction experience and OCAS’ cutting edge technology will help launch the OCAS concept in the industry. More importantly, this will help make the industry and our communities more aware that reducing the visual impact of wind farms is an important and responsible part of wind energy development," said Gregory Erdmann, Director of Sales for Wind Turbine Solutions at OCAS.

OCAS Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of OCAS AS. OCAS leads the way in obstruction marking safety with a radar recognition system capable of delivering both visual and audible warnings to flight crews approaching air obstacles. OCAS has systems with over 800,000 operational hours installed in Europe, Canada, and the USA. OCAS Inc. headquarters are located in Vienna, VA.

Renewable Energy Systems Canada Inc. (RES Canada) was founded in 2003 and is based in Montreal, Quebec. RES Canada is active with the development and construction services in most Canadian provinces.

Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. (RES Americas) is a fully-integrated renewable energy company that develops, constructs, owns, and operates projects across the United States (US), Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. RES Americas has more than 4,800 MW of construction projects, which represent approximately 10% of the operating installed wind capacity in the US, and has over 12,500 MW in development.
