Vestas receives wind power order for 40 MW in India

Vestas has received an order for 24 V82-1.65 MW winds turbines for the Phase 1 of the Harpanahalli Wind Farm project in the State of Karnataka, South India.

The contract comprises supply and commissioning of the wind turbines, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA system as well as a 10-year service and maintenance agreement. Delivery is scheduled to start during third quarter of 2010, and the project will be completed during first quarter of 2011.

The order has been placed by CLP, who is one of Vestas’ long-term global customers, with installations in both China and Australia. In India, CLP currently owns and operates close to 300 MW of wind energy and has around 150 MW under construction in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Their total investment in India so far is 450 MW.

“We are delighted that CLP has selected Vestas as their wind energy solution provider again after successfully completing of the Theni Wind Farm Project recently. It shows Vestas’ commitment to deliver the highest standards in terms of its product, technology and a safe project completion to our customers,” says Vestas Asia Pacific’s President, Sean Sutton.

Vestas has been active in India for more than 10 years, and as per 30 June 2010, Vestas had installed more than 2,300 MW of wind power in India.

“This repeat order from CLP further highlights their confidence in Vestas as a long-time partner in India,” adds Managing Director of Vestas India, Denis Koh.

“CLP is pleased with the successful closure of the second wind project with Vestas in India. With this project, CLP’s portfolio of committed wind investments in India has reached close to 500 MW of which Vestas is the supplier of almost 30 per cent. The Indian wind energy industry is witnessing an unprecedented change in which both companies can benefit from a long-term relationship. CLP believes that with this second project, the relationship with Vestas has achieved more depth, and CLP looks forward to discussing future projects with Vestas,” said Rajiv Mishra, Managing Director – India, CLP.
