ENERTRAG orders seven Vestas V112-3.0 MW wind turbines

The search for the most productive wind turbine has once again led ENERTRAG, one of the biggest independent wind energy producers in Europe, to Vestas.

ENERTRAG decided to order seven units of the V112-3.0 MW – Vestas’ latest and most technologically-advanced wind turbines – to most effectively optimise an existing wind farm.

The seven wind turbines will be installed at the Uckermark wind farm, next to ENERTRAG’s head office in Dauerthal. For this inland site ENERTRAG needed a productive wind turbine with an ideal tower height to ensure maximum energy production from Uckermark’s wind conditions and which presents a very attractive business case through high full load hours.

The V112-3.0 MW can generate even more electricity than other wind turbines in the 3 MW class and delivers industry-leading reliability, serviceability and availability.

ENERTRAG operates a fleet of about 500 wind turbines in Europe that generates an annual yield of one and a half billion kWh of electricity – enough to supply for the household needs of one and a half million people.

As an independent wind power producer, ENERTRAG is focused on using renewable energy only and pursues a vision of a world that completely derives its energy from sustainable sources.

The contract between ENERTRAG and Vestas includes delivery, installation, spare parts supply and a VestasOnline® Business SCADA solution – an extensive range of monitoring and control functions to help optimise the performance of the wind power plant.

As well, the contract includes Active Output-Management (AOM) 4000, a value-added risk management package for customers that guarantees defined turbine availability and productivity levels. The delivery of the wind turbines is scheduled for the end of 2011.

“We know ENERTRAG as a company with deep expertise, so we consider it a big compliment to have ENERTRAG select the new V112-3.0 MW as the ideal choice for this project,” says Hans Jörn Rieks, President of Vestas Central Europe. “The trust we have with ENERTRAG is proof of a very solid relationship, and forms the basis of a long-term partnership. We greatly appreciate that ENERTRAG has chosen the V112-3.0 MW and we salute its vision in doing so.”

“Vestas has the ability to effectively adopt new products for the market, and we consider the innovative new V112-3.0 MW to be the perfect turbine for our inland sites, where we aim for full load hours within the range of 3,000 per year,” says Jörg Müller, President of ENERTRAG. “We have a long partnership with Vestas, based on our trust in Vestas’ technology, experience and knowledge in wind energy.”

The V112-3.0 MW is the product of Vestas’ more than 30 years of knowledge and passion for wind energy and the experience that comes with installing more than 41,000 turbines in 65 countries in five continents.

Vestas’ focus on constant innovation and on applying new technological solutions results in increased performance in our wind turbines and a low the cost of energy – ensuring a top-quality business case that generates a solid return on investment for our customers.

This result comes from exhaustive design solutions and subsequent testing of the V112-3.0 MW to optimise the performance of all components and minimise turbine downtime for servicing. A new blade profile, nacelle design and cooling-system deliver load-optimised operation, while the new GridStreamer technology delivers high, stable plant output complying with most stringent grid requirements worldwide.

The V112-3.0 MW also demonstrates Vestas’ focus on providing solutions for the entire global wind energy sector: a turbine that offers a better way to harness the world’s ample supplies of low and medium winds and provide excellent grid support contributing to higher grid stability, and a turbine that is easier to transport and install in sites where installing a wind farm presents significant challenges. In addition, the turbine offers very competitive noise performance through five configurable noise modes with minimal lost of production.

Every single day, Vestas wind turbines deliver clean energy that supports the global fight against climate change. Wind power from Vestas’ more than 41,000 wind turbines currently reduces carbon emissions by more than 40 million tons of CO2 every year, while at the same time building energy security and independence.

Vestas is the world leader in wind technology, with a history of technological innovation and over 30 years of experience in developing, manufacturing, installing and maintaining wind turbines. Vestas was a pioneer in the wind industry and started to manufacture wind turbines in 1979. In 1987, the company began to concentrate exclusively on wind energy.

Today, Vestas operates in 65 countries, providing jobs for over 22,000 passionate people at our service and project sites, research facilities, factories and offices all over the world.
