Bill Gallo named Areva Solar CEO

Bill Gallo has been named the new CEO of Areva Solar, the global solar business unit of Areva Renewables, effective March 1. Current CEO Robert Fishman, who took the company from startup to a specialist in concentrated solar power, is expected to continue in his role through the transition, though his reason for departure was not disclosed.

Areva Solar — with about 500 employees and operations in the United States, India, and Australia — is based in Mountain View, while its parent company is French nuclear giant Areva. Areva Solar makes and installs solar steam generators for power generation and industrial customers.

Gallo, a 14-year company veteran, has been the CEO of Areva Federal Services, overseeing public sector contracts with technology installations at U.S. Department of Energy sites.

“Areva Solar’s world-class concentrated solar power technology is a critical part of our integrated, carbon-free energy solutions. Based on Bill’s proven executive experience at Areva and his in-depth power sector background, we look forward to some outstanding results as he assumes leadership of AREVA Solar and delivers on our rapidly expanding project pipeline,” said Areva Renewables CEO Anil Srivastava in a prepared statement. Before Areva Federal Services, Gallo worked for Areva’s transnuclear business and for ABB-Impell Corp.
