Gaelectric to Build Wind Energy Plant at Dunbeg

Gaelectric, which has its operational facilities in Ireland and in North America, will construct a wind farm at Dunbeg, Co Derry with a capability to produce around 42 MW of clean wind energy.

The wind power project, which requires an investment of around €68 million, when completed is likely to generate enough power to supply 24,000 homes with clean electricity.

Dunbeg located between Limavady and Coleraine regions is known for the exceptional natural beauty. Originally the project was refused permission by the Northern Ireland Planning Service citing that the wind project will spoil the beauty of the location.

Subsequently, the planning appeals commission reversed the ruling and said that the wind project will not hinder the green energy projects in the region. The company has plans to start a locally managed fund to sustain public projects in the area.
