China Datang Corporation Renewable Power Co., Ltd is a subsidiary of China Datang Group and is one of the largest wind energy developers in China. The collaboration between Vestas and Datang reaches back to 2005, when the Chinese wind energy market started its rapid development.
Located in the middle of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Wuchuan County is surrounded by mountains with difficult terrain conditions and elevations between 1,800 and 2,000 metres above sea level. For such conditions, the V60-850 kW wind turbine is the best suited solution: V60’s light blade design improves the overall power production; the comparatively small size of the nacelle is easy for transportation, particularly suitable for hard to reach sites.
Jens Tommerup, President of Vestas China says, “We are very proud that Datang has chosen the business case we have presented to them. We firmly believe that wind turbines that are best suited for the wind and terrain conditions in question are paramount to achieving a higher level of productivity, and this is a significant parameter for the return on investment over the 20-year lifetime of the project.” He continues, “Since we installed the first V60s in 2010, their performance has reached a very satisfactory level, and we are very pleased to see that the reliable kW platform is continually recognized.”
The contract includes delivery, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA solution as well as a two-year service and maintenance agreement. The turbines are scheduled to be delivered in the third quarter of 2011.
From initial cooperation in 2005 to the end of 2010, Vestas has signed orders of more than 800 MW with China Datang Corporation Renewable Power Co., Ltd.
