Concentrating solar power: BrightSource Energy adds energy sector leaders to management team

The newest members of the leadership team include: Joe Desmond, senior vice president of government affairs and communications; Stephen Wiley, senior vice president of U.S. development; and Yasser Dib, regional vice president of international business development. All three positions are effective immediately.

Mr. Desmond brings more than two decades of private and public energy sector experience to his role at BrightSource, where he oversees communications, marketing, and government and regulatory affairs. Prior to joining BrightSource, Desmond served as executive vice president and Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer at Ice Energy, Inc. and senior vice president of external affairs at NorthernStar Natural Gas. Desmond also served numerous executive roles under California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger including Deputy Secretary of Energy for the State Resources Agency, Chairman of the California Energy Commission and Undersecretary for Energy Affairs. Prior to public service, Desmond spent four years as President and Chief Executive Officer of Infotility, Inc. Previously, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Electronic Lighting, Inc., and vice president of Parke Industries.

As the lead on all U.S. development activities, Mr. Wiley will manage the site selection, permitting, development and delivery of utility-scale solar power projects. In his more than two decades of energy sector experience, Wiley served as President at Gallop Power LLC and President at Greenhunter Renewable Energy. Mr. Wiley also held management roles at Gamesa Energy, TIP Strategies, Reliant Energy and Dynegy. Additionally, he worked for the Public Utility Commission of Texas.

Mr. Dib is responsible for developing industrial and enhanced oil recovery markets for BrightSource. Dib brings more than 20 years in project finance and international development to his role. Prior to joining BrightSource, Dib served as Chief Investment Officer at Amwal International Investment Company, where he oversaw the company’s investment group and the development of a 350 megawatt power plant in Pakistan. He previously served as Chief Investment Officer at Al Ritaj Investment Company. Dib also previously held senior management positions at Alghanim Industries, DIB S.A.R.L., Bechtel Financing Services and Bechtel Corporation.
