Suzlon receives 48 MW wind energy order from IOC

The wind farm order comprises of 23 Suzlon’s S88 – 2.1 MW wind turbines, and the wind power generated will be sold to the local power utility. Indian Oil is India’s flagship national oil company and ranked 98th in the Fortune ‘Global 500’ listing for the year 2010. The energy major has placed strong focus on sustainable energy solutions, with an emphasis on exploring and diversifying into alternative energy sources, including wind energy.

The Corporation’s first foray into wind power – a 21 MW wind farm in the Kutch district of Gujarat, and also built by Suzlon – came on line in January 2009. This wind farm earned the distinction of being one of the quickest commissioned among large wind farm projects in the country.

The wind power project has been submitted for registration under the CDM mechanism for carbon credits, to be followed by the Andhra Pradesh wind farm.
