Nordex enters Romania with wind energy projects totalling 20 megawatts

Market entry in Romania with wind farm projects totalling 20 megawatts. Wind energy Nordex expands wind power business in Eastern Europe.

Nordex believes in the growth potential of wind energy in Eastern Europe. As an example of this, business in Romania is now also moving forward for the wind turbine manufacturer: this year the company received the first two wind turbines orders for a total of 20 megawatts. In addition to this, it wind farm projects a growing demand for wind power investments from Poland and Bulgaria.

The two customers in Romania have each ordered four N100/2500 machines along with long-term Service Agreements. Their wind farms are due to start operation by the end of 2011 and will serve as references for future business in Romania. The wind power market potential is excellent, and it is expected that by the end of 2015 wind turbines with output of more than 3,000 megawatts will be in operation here. “Our target is to achieve a significant market share. The first projects are providing us with important experience for this. Being confident of the good prospects of the Romanian renewable energy market, we plan to set up a branch in the coming months,” announces CSO Lars Bondo Krogsgaard.

Apart from Romania, Nordex is particularly focusing on Poland. Nordex is already established in the Polish wind farm market via a subsidiary. Nordex Polska has connected 93 megawatts to the grid. A further 50 megawatts will be installed by the end of 2011. In future the company expects to supply Poland with more than 100 megawatts a year. One important growth driver will be Nordex´ new large N117/2400 wind turbines which is a perfect match to low wind sites.
