Suzlon receives 25.5 MW wind turbines order for wind farm in Karnataka

Suzlon receives 25.5 MW order from GAIL for wind energy project in Karnataka. Wind power manufacturer Suzlon Energy Limited today had bagged an order from GAIL (India) for its wind energy project to be commissioned in Karnataka in 2012.

The order is for 17 units of Suzlon’s S82 – 1.5 MW wind turbines for what would be GAIL’s third wind energy project with Suzlon. The previous two wind power projects are located in Gujarat. The first 4.5 MW wind farm, comprising Suzlon’s S-82 1.5 MW wind turbines, was commissioned in March 2010, and the second 14.7 MW wind farm is currently under execution. These two wind power projects cater to fulfill GAIL’s captive power requirements.

The new wind farm will sell the power generated to a local power distribution company under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) at the fixed preferential feed-in tariff, the release said.

"As one of India’s premier players in the energy sector, GAIL has always exhibited exemplary commitment and support towards the cause of renewable energy sources and its role in environmental sustainability," Mr. Tulsi R. Tanti, founder, Chairman and Managing Director, Suzlon Group, said.
