"We have been in the solar business for over 30 years now, and we are here to stay. We are showing a new high-efficiency PV panel we hope to make available next spring, our advanced battery system, and we will be explaining new financial programs to help encourage the installation of our advanced solar products," said Charles Hanasaki, president of the Solar & Smart Energy division.
SANYO is a world-leader in solar technology, offering some of the most powerful sun-to-electricity conversion rates available in the market. Launching its initial product lines in the solar industry back in the 1970s, SANYO has a long, rich history of product development that has led to a special hybrid-type solar cell, called a HIT (heterojunction with intrinsic thin-layer) which offers superior performance in power generation, even in higher temperatures. SANYO is also one of the only manufacturers to make a bifacial solar panel, called HIT Double, which is able to convert energy from light both from the top and the bottom sides of the panel.
Environmentalist and actor Ed Begley Jr. will be at the booth on Tuesday, October 18. "I’ll be at the SANYO booth at Solar Power International to discuss with attendees my support of using solar to achieve a more energy efficient lifestyle," said Begley Jr. "Also I was pleased to learn of SANYO’s new financing program so that solar will be possible for even more homeowners."
SANYO is also displaying its advanced energy storage system at the show this year. The system uses 1.6-kWh modules, each with 312 18650 lithium-ion cylindrical cells, the same cell used in laptop computers and electric cars. The modules are scalable to make a 1.6-kWh system or a 1-MWh system operate as one single, giant battery to provide support for renewable energy sources, provide emergency power backup supply, and to help shift peak demand from the daytime high to help utilities manage the distribution network. More information on the systems will be available at the booth.
SANYO panels will be shown with PV Trackers in booth #125-OD. PV Trackers is a ground-mounted system that moves the solar panels so they are always facing the sun. PV Trackers, when combined with SANYO HIT solar panels, achieves the most efficient system and increases megawatt-hour production levels by approximately 40-50% in comparison to a fixed-rack system.
In addition to physical products, SANYO will also be explaining and offering information on the latest development in financing solar panels, with a new financial partner. For more information on these programs, please stop by the SANYO booth at the show.
HIT stands for Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin-layer. HIT solar cells employ a proprietary technology developed by SANYO whereby hybrid solar cells composed of single crystalline silicon wafers are surrounded by ultra-thin amorphous silicon layers. The unique structure minimizes defects within the p/n junction of the cell, producing highly efficient cells capable of achieving up to 17.8% module efficiency while producing more power even at higher temperatures.
