22 wind farm projects in pipeline in Pakistan

Alternative Energy Development Board official said that 11 wind energy developers have so far completed feasibility studies while six independent wind power producers have also acquired generation license from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority of them three were awarded tariff and while three are in negotiations on energy purchase and implementation agreements with authorities.

The official said that Zorlu Enerji Pakistan awarded tariff of US cents 12.1057 per KWH and it is in process of executing its 50 MW wind turbines project in Jhampir, Thatta and 3 others acquired private land for their projects and are in the process of completing feasibility studies. AEDB is encouraging wind energy use for self consumption and grid spill over, the official said and added a 150 KW wind turbine installed by a private firm is availing net-metering facility.

He said that various incentives to develop renewable energy are being offered b the government including guaranteed electricity purchase, attractive tariff, no import duty on equipment and zero percent sales tax. Wind energy potential in the country is about 346,000 MW of which 60,000 MW is in Gharo, Keti Bandar wind corridor alone spreading over 60 kilometers along Sindh province coastline and over 170 kilometers deep into hinterland.
