Wind energy in Bolivia: first wind farm in 2013

Bolivia prepares for 2013 coming into operation the first wind power generation in the country, with a capacity of 2.5 megawatts (MW).

The wind farm project will be launched in Qollpana, Pocona municipality in Cochabamba, at 2,700 meters above sea level, in order to explore and harness the wind potential of the area with a view to the future installation of the first wind farm in the country according to the National Electricity Company quoted by the newspaper Cambio.

The Electric Company nationalized Corani run these jobs, which are expected to help diversify the energy mix and increase the contribution to power generation in the Multinational State. Since February 2010 a tower was installed collected measurement data confirming the existence of sufficient energy potential of this resource to perform any work of this kind, said the newspaper.

They also performed the feasibility study and optimization of energy production, modeling of the wind farm, design and production. Currently being developed terms of reference for the acquisition, transportation, erection and commissioning of the wind farm is expected that the tender can be launched before the end of this year.
