Chipene is a region where crops such as maize, cassava and sesame are grown along with rice, beans, peanuts, cashews and others, to supply both its own district and the neighbouring districts of Nacala-a-Velha, Nacaroa and Nacala-Porto, part of which have sandy soils that are considered unsuitable for agriculture.
