Wind energy in Argentina: Rawson Wind farm

Next Sunday will enter in commercial operation Rawson wind farm, installed by the company Emgasud in Chubut, which earmarked an investment of 144.3 million dollars. The wind farm has an installed capacity of 80 MW (megawatts) and successfully passed the trial period for wind turbines.

The management company of the wholesale electricity market (CAMMESA) enabled the release of the energy generated by the first module, 50 MW, and in the coming days will do the same with the remaining 30 MW.

With this addition, the Argentine system interconnection (SADI) may carry annually 300 GWh of clean energy, equivalent to the consumption of 100,000 homes.

Rawson wind farm will also allow savings of 85 million cubic meters of natural gas and reduction of 150,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases.

Emgasud also works to install the wind farm Madryn, near its namesake city.

There, in an area of 6,500 hectares 119 wind turbines will be mounted the same characteristics as those installed on the PER (Rawson wind farm), which will enable to achieve 220 MW of installed capacity. In this wind power development, the company plans to invest 510 million dollars.
