Pakistan to to allocate land for wind farm projects

A joint survey team of the government of Sindh and the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) has identified 5,000 acres of land for allocation to eligible wind power projects to generate an accumulative 1,322 megawatts of power in Thatta and Jamshoro.

This is an initial allocation of land, which may be increased as per demand from time to time.Official sources said that the Secretary of Board of Investment, Mohammad Younus Dagha, in his recent letter to the ministry for water and power suggested that the AEDB be directed to bring all the pending projects to avail this opportunity on fast track basis.

The provincial government had also asked the power ministry to advice the AEDB officials to prepare land allocation parcels out of the identified land which might be offered to the wind energy projects.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Water and Power, Syed Naveed Qamar, visited the Sindh Secretariat on Saturday and held a meeting with the Chief Secretary of Sindh, Raja Muhammad Abbas, to review the wind turbines projects. The meeting was informed that preferably, the land would be given to the projects which opted for fast track operation.
