Wind energy in France: Suzlon’s Repower Wins 250 MW Turbine Agreement in France

REpower Systems SE has signed a framework contract with Maïa Eolis – a subsidiary of Maïa Group and GDF_Suez which holds 49% – for the supply of up to 250 megawatts (MW) for onshore wind farms in France. The wind turbines of the REpower MM and 3.XM series are to be delivered between 2012 and 2015. The agreement strengthens the strategic alliance initiated by the first contract signed in 2004.

The contract comprises turbines of REpower’s best-selling turbines to date, the MM82 and MM92, with a nominal power of 2 megawatts. Furthermore, the REpower 3.4M104 and the REpower 3.2M114 with 3.4 and 3.2 MW rated power respectively are part of the agreement. The 3 MW series is the company’s latest onshore development for sites with low to middle wind speeds.

CEO Andreas Nauen said after the signing: “We are delighted that Maïa Eolis has confirmed REpower as strategic provider for wind turbines in the coming years. This agreement is the breakthrough of the REpower 3.XM series in France, after the successful ramp-up in other European markets so far. Moreover, our 3.XM series ideally suits the conditions on the French wind market.”

Olivier Perot, Managing Director of REpower’s French subsidiary REpower S.A.S., added: “Maïa Eolis has renewed its trust in REpower’s solutions, expertise and professional service with this framework contract. This renewed alliance will allow Maïa Eolis and REpower to further expand their technology partnership.” REpower S.A.S. and Maïa Eolis have been working successfully together since 2004.

Christian Broy, Managing Director of Maïa Eolis declares: “This agreement represents the logical continuation of our technology partnership and will allow Maïa Eolis to remain among the best wind energy producers in France.”
