DeWind Announces Completion of 20 MW Frisco Wind Energy Project in Texas

DeWind Co, the US-based manufacturer of wind turbines and wholly-owned subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., Ltd (DSME) (SEO: 042660), has concluded commissioning activities and achieved commercial operation on the ten DeWind D8.2 wind turbines at the 20 MW Frisco Wind Farm in the North Texas panhandle near the Texas-Oklahoma border. The Frisco Wind Farm features the latest deployment of DeWind’s proven 2.0 MW D8.2 platform.

TECO-Westinghouse, the manufacturing subcontractor to DeWind Co, assembled the 2.0 MW DeWind D8.2 wind turbines in-state at their Round Rock, Texas facility.

During an average year, the Frisco Wind Farm will offset an annual nominal average of 39,726.5 tons of CO2 emissions and provide enough electricity to power almost 6,000 average American households.

Robert Rugh, President / CEO of DeWind Co, commented, “Completion of the Frisco Wind Farm marks the latest milestone in the overall deployment of the unique DeWind D8.2 wind turbine technology to the North American market, while further showcasing the technology and demonstrating the capabilities of the D8.2 architecture. The Frisco Wind Farm also serves as the precursor to additional DeWind turbine installations slated for North America during 2012.”

Currently DeWind 2.0 MW turbines provide grid-friendly power to a variety of locations in Europe, Asia, South America and North America. The Frisco Wind Farm represents DeWind’s single largest US-based operating project to date, adding to DeWind’s global installed base of more than 1600 MW. Additional projects utilizing DeWind turbines are slated for completion during 2012, with DeWind’s North American installed base approaching 200 MW by the end of the year.

About DeWind Co: DeWind Co designs, produces and sells multi-megawatt wind turbines, including the 2.0 MW series which includes the D8.2 and D9.2 models available in 60 Hz configuration, and the 2.0 MW D9.1 model in 50 Hz configuration. The D8.2 utilizes the advanced WinDrive(R) hydrodynamic torque converter developed by Voith AG, in combination with a fixed speed synchronous high voltage AC generator which connects directly to the grid without power conversion electronics.
