Wind energy in China: Sinovel aims big in wind power

The Sinovel Wind Group Co, Ltd held a cornerstone laying ceremony for tits Datong comprehensive industrial base on May 26.

Liang Zhipeng, deputy director of the National Energy Administration’s New Energy and Renewable Energy Division, attened the ceremony.

The Datong wind farm base is expected to have an annual capacity of 1.5 million kilowatts, worth 6 billion yuan. When going into full operation, it will be central China’s largest wind power industrial base.

The base is located in Datong’s equipment manufacturing park on 20 hectares of land, and costs 1.5 billion yuan ($235.63 million).

The wind turbines project is also expected to speed up Datong’s transformation and development, and help its new equipment manufacturing industry.

The Sinovel Wind Group Co Ltd is China’s first high-tech enterprise to specialize in the development, design, manufacture, and sales of wind turbines, adapted to various global environments. By 2011, its cumulative installed output reached 12,989 megawatts, making it No 1 in China.
