Wind energy in Ireland: Vestas will supply 12 V90-2.0 MW wind turbines for a wind farm

Vestas will supply 12 V90-2.0 MW wind turbines to Lisheen, Ireland, after receiving an order from Bord Gáis. Bord Gáis is a state owned utility company based in Cork and is one of the leading energy providers in Ireland.

This project was successfully won based on an OJEU (Official Journal of the European Union) tender that was submitted in November 2011. The development is an extension to the existing Lisheen Wind Farm that currently consists of 18 V90-2.0 MW turbines, built in 2009. Lisheen phase one is performing well and above the agreed contractual level.

The turbines will be delivered in Q1 2013 and the project will be run as an EPC (turnkey) project with Balfour Beatty Ireland Ltd as the main contractor.

Klaus Steen Mortensen, President of Vestas Northern Europe says, “We are very pleased to announce the 2nd phase of the Lisheen Wind Farm project. This is a tremendous opportunity for Vestas to strengthen our presence in Ireland and confirms our leading position in the wind industry worldwide. Being the only global company focused solely on wind technology, we are fully committed to ensure our customers the best return on investment in each wind project.
