Siemens Energy has recently finalized its contract with Pattern Energy for the Ocotillo Wind power project in Southern California.
The wind power plant is currently under construction and most of the project will be placed into commercial operation in 2012, with a portion going online in the first half of 2013.
The scope of supply encompasses delivery, technical field assistance and commissioning of the 112 SWT-2.3-108 wind turbines, including a two-year service and maintenance contract. The majority of the wind turbines for this project are manufactured in the U.S.
Additionally, the 115-megawatt (MW) El Arrayán wind power plant in Chile will utilize nacelles and hubs from the Hutchinson, Kansas, facility and blades from the Fort Madison, Iowa, plant. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2013.

Ocotillo Wind marks the 10th project completed, in development or under contract with Pattern Energy, totaling more than 800 wind turbine units capable of producing clean energy for more than 500,000 average homes. At the end of October 2012, Siemens completed commissioning of 44 SWT-2.3-108 units for Pattern Energy’s Santa Isabel Wind project in Puerto Rico, which is the first commercial-scale wind power project in Puerto Rico and the largest in the Caribbean. The wind power plant will help the island achieve the current administration’s aggressive plan to diversify Puerto Rico’s energy sources.
Scheduled for installation in spring 2013, the El Arrayán wind power plant in Chile is Siemens’ first wind project in South America outside of Brazil. The scope of supply encompasses delivery, installation and commissioning of 50 SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines, including a five-year service and maintenance contract. Commissioning of the wind power plant is planned for winter 2013/14.
