Pennsylvania Governor Corbett Tours Leading Wind Power Company

Governor Tom Corbett, joined by company executives including CEO Jim Spencer, today toured Pittsburgh-based EverPower Wind Holdings, Inc. and discussed how Pennsylvania’s diverse energy portfolio is attracting innovation across all sectors and continuing to add jobs to the state’s growing economy.

“EverPower’s decision to relocate in the heart of America’s new energy powerhouse is proof that Pennsylvania continues to expand markets for all its energy resources,” Corbett said. “Renewable and alternative energy sources are an essential part of our all-of-the-above portfolio of energy options, located right here in the most dynamic energy market in the nation, and I thank EverPower for their commitment.”

EverPower has four wind farms in the state, three of which are located in Cambria County and the fourth in Somerset County. Combined, the four projects have created more than 300 construction jobs. The company’s 138 turbines operating in Pennsylvania can produce nearly 307 mega-watts of power a year, enough to power nearly 80,000 homes, and displace more than 700,000 tons of greenhouse gases a year.

The 10-year old company, which has grown from four to nearly 50 employees, recently relocated their corporate headquarters to Pittsburgh from New York City. The headquarters, located in the Strip District, includes a control room to manage the company’s wind operations across the country and a trading floor where renewable energy credits are bought and sold on open exchanges.

Pennsylvania is a net exporter of electricity, and the state’s electricity market was recently rated as the most competitive in the nation. Pennsylvania’s competitive markets are saving citizens millions of dollars annually, while providing direct access to consumers for renewable energy companies. Pennsylvania is ranked 15th nationally in terms of installed wind power and was ninth last year for new wind projects.
