The European Parliament adopted today in plenary the Reul Report which calls on the European Commission to propose a binding European renewable energy target by 2030.
“This vote confirms the European Parliament’s commitment to basing Europe’s future on renewable energy and sends a very strong message to both the European Commission, currently consulting on a 2030 framework for energy and climate policies, and to Member States”, said Hinrichs-Rahlwes.
The Parliament’s vote took place the day before Heads of States meet to discuss energy policy.
“The European Parliament has shown its commitment to a policy which will help create new jobs, decrease resource use and greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining Europe’s technology leadership worldwide and boosting Europe’s competitiveness”, concluded Mr. Hinrichs-Rahlwes.
