EDF Energies Nouvelles commissions the 200 MW Hereford wind farm in Texas

EDF Energies Nouvelles is announcing the commissioning of the Hereford wind farm by its US subsidiary, EDF Renewable Energy.

With the start-up of this 200 MW facility, the subsidiary has now achieved more than two-thirds of the gigawatt of projects the Group is set to build by year-end 2015 in Texas.

Located in northern Texas (Panhandle), the Hereford wind farm, consists of 54 General Electric turbines and 50 Vestas turbines, with a respective unit capacity of 1.85 MW and 2 MW. The Hereford facility’s output will be equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 55,000 US homes.

The power is sold into the ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) local power market and covered by a long-term, fixed-price hedge agreement for a portion of the expected energy production.

Operations & Maintenance services at the new wind farm will be provided by EDF Renewable Services, a subsidiary of EDF Renewable Energy specialised in this activity.

After the Spinning Spur 1 (161 MW), Bobcat Bluff (150 MW) and Spinning Spur 2 (161 MW) facilities, the Hereford wind farm is the fourth wind energy installation to be commissioned by the Group in Texas. To date, EDF Energies Nouvelles has completed 672 MW in gross capacity on the portofolio of one gigawatt of projects to be built by end-2015 in this US state.

EDF Energies Nouvelles is a market leader in green electricity production, with a portfolio of 7,190 MW of gross installed capacity focused for the most part on wind (onshore and offshore) and solar photovoltaic energy. Mostly operating in Europe and North America, EDF Energies Nouvelles continues its development in promising emerging areas taking position in new countries (Israel, Morocco, South Africa and India). The Company is also present in other segments of the renewable energy market: marine energy, biogas, biomass and distributed energies. EDF Energies Nouvelles manages renewable energy projects’ development and construction as well as operation and maintenance for its own account and for third parties.
