Generation wind comes to New Orleans

It’s Mardi Gras, and that’s a reminder the largest annual wind energy conference in the U.S. is heading to New Orleans in just a few short months. So celebrate today, because it’s an exceptional time to be part of American wind power.

U.S. wind is entering a new era. The stability provided by the Production Tax Credit/Investment Tax Credit extension, along with the potential for an increase in demand as states begin complying with the Clean Power Plan, have created a business environment primed for expansion. Just look to 2015’s fourth quarter, when 8,500 megawatts (MW) came online, 77 percent more than all of 2014 combined. Installed capacity in the U.S. is now nearly 75 gigawatts (GW), in the form of 52,000 turbines.

That’s a lot of wind power, but the potential is much greater.

We can’t wait to explore that potential in New Orleans this May 23-26, during AWEA WINDPOWER 2016 Conference & Exhibition. And with the industry evolving and expanding, it’s time for this critical event to reflect that. A new generation is coming and it will be on full display.

In 2016, newcomers and veterans alike will find an integrated exhibition hall that incorporates all the breakout education sessions available to all attendees, with renewed focus on fostering leadership with the Emerging Leaders Program and the U.S. Department of Energy Collegiate Wind Competition, and a streamlined registration process with only one price tier.

Even with an extensive education program, there will be plenty of time to get around the city as well … whether on the Mississippi River via steamboat during the DISCOVER New Orleans networking event, at the WINDPOWER 2016 Golf Open organized and sponsored by Suzlon, through private tours run by Grey Line, or by taking the added free time in the schedule to experience the Big Easy in your own unique way.

This is the year of Generation Wind and it’s coming to New Orleans.
