Predictive analytics among top trends at WINDPOWER 2016

Seth Morris is a Senior Sales Executive at SparkCognition who focuses on helping his customers leverage the latest innovations in cognitive machine learning and artificial intelligence to develop revolutionary solutions in the areas of predictive prognostics, optimization, and cyber/physical security. SparkCognition is cognitive, data-driven analytic company focused on delivering reliability, safety and security to the industrial internet.

WINDPOWER 2016 demonstrated a holistic vision of renewable energy influenced by technology. The wide spectrum of attendees showed the impact wind power has on human and technological advancements. We heard stories about how wind helps family farmers and that turbine technicians are shaping up to be America’s fastest growing jobs.

SparkCognition was proud to share the stage with many other industry leaders in New Orleans.  Two commendable moments from the conference: NextEra Energy, one of the U.S. industry’s leaders, received the Outstanding Commercial Achievement award for advancing the U.S. industry in 2016; and Chicago-based Invenergy, another industry front-runner (and who will soon be powering New York City residents), was recognized with AWEA’s Achievement in Operations award. Wind energy’s promising future resonated among operators, turbine manufacturers and third party solution providers present at the annual conference.

This year’s event was global in scale, attracting many prominent European companies. This was beneficial as the outreach and depth of knowledge-sharing within the wind energy industry contained a global perspective. It provided a collaborative platform for companies like ours to have an opportunity to generate awareness in the international community about a revolutionary approach in predictive maintenance, using concepts from cognitive machine learning and artificial intelligence patented algorithms.

Software advances are helping wind farms run more efficiently than ever before.

We are currently at the inflection point of the fourth wave of analytics where cognitive algorithms have the capability to constantly learn from structured and unstructured data without rules based programming. These algorithms enable companies to proactively harness their stockpiles of data and turn them into actionable insights, like avoiding unscheduled maintenance and downtime, and helping to drive data-driven business decisions. What was once thought impossible just a few years ago is now a reality.

Being able to add real-time operational value at such a decisive time to help empower growing industries like wind power aligns well with the impact SparkCognition seeks to achieve. We are thankful to AWEA for bringing together innovations and initiatives within the industry to share.
