EDF Energies Nouvelles awardee of the call for projects “pilot floating wind farms’’ of the ADEME

The French government announced that day that the Provence Grand Large project, led by EDF Energies Nouvelles, won the call for projects ‘’floating wind farms’’ initiated by the ADEME in August 2015.

 

Located on the Faraman area off Marseille, the Provence Grand Large project led by EDF Energies Nouvelles, will be undertaken in partnership with Siemens as turbine supplier, and SBM Offshore in cooperation with IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) for the manufacture of the floats and offshore work.

This innovating project is part of the ongoing efforts made by EDF Energies Nouvelles since 2011 on this site, in collaboration with the local actors. This project aims at making a French excellence sector emerge.

Key figures
– three 8-MW Siemens wind turbines;
– the project will generate enough energy to meet the annual electricity needs of about 40 000 inhabitants;
– located at 17 km off the Napoleon beach, in Port Saint Louis du Rhône;
– due to be commissioned by 2020.
