Biden to Kamala Harris switch holds out hope of continuity for US wind power

Wind energy switches gears from grappling with the uncertainties of a second Trump term to possibility of continued momentum under progressive vice president.

Most analysts agree that the calculation for US renewable energy, and not least offshore wind, in the upcoming election is simple: a Democratic presidency would benefit the sector, while a Republican, particularly Donald Trump, would be a setback.

Democratic presidents going back to Jimmy Carter have embraced renewables, and President Joe Biden’s administration placed offshore wind at the heart of its climate ambitions, permitting eight projects totalling 13GW of capacity so far, with more expected before the end of his term.
