Liberia launches tender for 20 MW solar photovoltaic plant

LIberia has launched a tender to seek consultancy services to oversee the construction of a 20 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant.

The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) announced the call and said the project aims to enhance Liberia’s renewable energy capacity and improve energy efficiency. The power plant will be developed at the Mt. Coffee Hydroelectric Plant (MCHPP) in Harrisburg, Monrovia.
This initiative, part of the Regional Emergency Solar Energy Intervention Project (RESPITE), is designed to complement the existing 88 MW hydroelectric facility, providing additional capacity and efficiency, particularly during the dry season when hydroelectric production declines.

The World Bank will finance the project. Consulting services sought will include reviewing design reports and contractor drawings, conducting physical site assessments and surveys, monitoring the supply and construction of equipment and civil works, approving design modifications and ensuring quality control, supervising testing, commissioning and compliance with specifications.
Interested consulting companies must be a registered engineering company, have at least 10 years of experience as a proprietary engineer and have a minimum of 2 years of experience in hybrid solar or hydropower systems in sub-Saharan Africa or similar regions, demonstrated experience in the design and supervision of hybrid solar projects, including power plants and civil structures.

Expressions of interest must be submitted before August 12, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. local time. Companies can partner with others to improve their ratings.
