Nordex Group’s GHG emission reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated the Nordex Group’s near- and long-term GHG emission reduction targets. This approval follows an in-depth review of the targets and confirms that they meet the SBTi criteria for achieving the 1.5 °C target of the Paris Climate Agreement.

Since the beginning of 2022, the Nordex Group has been pursuing ambitious goals in the area of climate change and decarbonization as part of its Sustainability Strategy 2025. The annual analysis of the Nordex Group’s corporate carbon footprint provides the basis for the development, monitoring and achievement of climate targets.  At the end of 2021, Nordex formally committed to defining Science-based Targets (SBTs) and achieving short- and long-term GHG emissions reductions. At the end of 2023, Nordex submitted these targets to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for approval.

The validation of these targets by the SBTi is an important milestone for the company in pursuing its vision to provide products and services that empower people around the world and contribute to a cleaner and more peaceful planet. Nordex is now focused on developing and implementing measures to achieve the short and long-term GHG emission reductions.

At a glance – the Nordex Group’s GHG emissions targets:

  • Short-term: Nordex is committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and absolute Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030 compared to the 2022 base year.
  • Long-term: Nordex commits to reducing absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90% by 2050 compared to the 2022 base year.
  • These targets therefore contribute to the overall Net-Zero target: Nordex is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050. At the end of the period, a maximum of 10% may still be offset at that time.
