The Nordex Group has been present for many years in the Baltic countries of Estonia and Lithuania and now the company will also expand to Latvia for the first time. Sia Laflora Energy, a subsidiary of the peat extraction and processing company Laflora, has placed an order for the supply and installation of 16 N175/6.X wind turbines. The contract for the project also includes a Premium Plus service contract for the turbines for a period of 35 years.
The 108.8 MW “Laflora” wind farm project is located in the southwest of Riga. The Nordex Group will install the N175/6.X turbines on internally developed hybrid towers with hub heights of 179 metres and will deliver the machines in the cold climate version available at the company. This is the first order in Latvia for the Nordex Group and the first major order for the N175/6.X turbine in the Baltics.

The Laflora wind farm, which the Latvian wind energy company Windy, Ltd. has developed on behalf of Laflora, will be installed on a former peat extraction area of ??the Kaigu peat bog in the municipality of L?vb?rze in the Jelgava region. The wind farm will be part of the planned wind farm by Laflora on the area owned by the company. The project will strengthen the development of the wind turbine supply chain in Latvia, as the components of the hybrid towers will be produced at Consolis Latvija, a company of the Consolis group.
The state-owned Latvenergo Group, one of the leading power generators in the Baltic countries, has acquired a 100% stake in the Laflora project, which will allow it to start generating wind energy in the summer of 2026. Green energy from the Laflora wind farm will be one of the cornerstones of Latvenergo’s green portfolio strategy: 600 MW of wind and solar capacity by 2026 and 2,300 MW by 2030. Once the wind farm is operational, Laflora will purchase part of the renewable energy for the development of the green industrial zone on the company’s property, Kaigu bog. The green industrial zone, with an area of ??127 hectares, will allow offsetting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated in peat extraction and processing and the implementation of the company’s climate neutrality strategy for 2050.
Laflora is one of the largest peat extraction and processing companies in Latvia and has been producing peat substrates for horticulture, forestry and agriculture since 1995. The company ensures a complete cycle of peat extraction and processing, from preparation of extraction sites, peat extraction and processing into high added value products to long-term land development or recultivation. This enables quality control and promotes sustainability at all stages, adhering to EU guidelines and regulations on climate neutrality, as well as environmental and social responsibility and good corporate governance practices. Laflora ensures stable long-term availability of peat resources, extracting an average of 115,000 tonnes of peat per year. Approximately 90% of the goods produced are exported to more than 40 countries around the world. To implement renewable energy projects, Laflora has established a subsidiary, “Laflora Energy”, which is developing the Laflora wind-solar park on the Kaigu peat bog in the municipality of Jelgava.
