Zelestra inaugurated the 144 MW La Unión photovoltaic plant in Colombia

Zelestra, a Spanish company specializing in renewable energy, inaugurated the La Unión photovoltaic plant in Montería, Córdoba department. The photovoltaic plant has 220,960 solar panels that will generate 144 megawatts.

The photovoltaic plant has an area of ??230 hectares and took a year and a half to build. 1,276 people were involved in the project; it is expected that 132,000 homes will benefit, which translates into about 430,000 people.

“Córdoba has adequate solar resources and topography to carry out this type of project, and it also has good road and electrical infrastructure conditions to allow the construction of the project and subsequent evacuation of the generated energy,” said Alejandro Ospina, country manager of Zelestra.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Andrés Camacho, the Mayor of Montería, Hugo Kerguelén, and the Governor of Córdoba, Erasmo Zuleta.
As for Zelestra’s activity in Colombia, the Spanish company will inaugurate a second photovoltaic plant with a peak generation capacity of 108 megawatts (“La Planta” in César) with which it hopes to become a benchmark for energy generation from renewable sources in Colombia.
