El Salvador reaches 633 MW of photovoltaic

According to data from the General Superintendence of Electricity and Telecommunications (Siget), solar photovoltaic represented 21.1% of the total installed capacity in 2023.
The General Superintendence of Electricity and Telecommunications (Siget) has released the data on installed capacity for 2023, which highlights that photovoltaic power occupies 21.1% of the total, very close to the 21.2% of hydroelectric power.

Of the total that represents 2,997.69 MW of installed capacity, photovoltaic power reaches the aforementioned percentage with 633.10 MW, while hydroelectric power has 638.06 MW.

If all renewable sources are added together, Siget data reveal a coverage of 61.5%, which should include technologies such as geothermal and biomass, both of which have a large presence, plus wind and biogas.

Meanwhile, power plants that operate with fossil fuels such as bunker and liquefied natural gas (LNG) covered 38.6%.
