Oda Solar Photovoltaic Power Project Inaugurated in Oromia, Ethiopia

The Oda Photovoltaic Power Project, a 370 kilowatt solar power facility built at a cost of 195 million birr, was officially inaugurated in Medewelabu Woreda, East Borena Zone, Oromia Regional State.

In his inaugural address, the State Minister for Water and Energy, Dr. Sultan Wali, highlighted that the project will provide electricity to approximately 15,000 rural residents. He noted that this development is expected to enhance economic activities in both rural and urban areas while creating significant employment opportunities for local youth. Dr. Sultan urged the community to adopt a sense of ownership and ensure proper utilization and maintenance of the solar energy infrastructure.

Engineer Million Bekele, Director of the Oromia Regional Water and Energy Office, stressed the importance of maintaining the facility to ensure the long-term availability of electricity services in the region.

The Oda Solar Power Project was developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Energy, the German International Development Cooperation (GIZ), the European Union and the Oromia Regional Water and Energy Office.
