SEG Solar Breaks Ground on 5GW Photovoltaic (PV) Industrial Park in Indonesia

SEG Solar (SEG), a leading US manufacturer of photovoltaic modules, has broken ground on its integrated PV industrial park in Kawasan Industri Terpadu Batang, Central Java, Indonesia. This project underscores SEG’s commitment to global growth and investment in the region, with plans to reach an annual production capacity of 5GW for silicon ingots, wafers, cells and modules, making it the largest vertically integrated PV industrial park in Indonesia.
The first phase of the project will focus on building 10 advanced N-type cell production lines, with an annual capacity of 5 GW, and is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025. SEG plans to collaborate with other PV component suppliers, such as those producing wafers, ingots, junction boxes, frames and EVA films, to establish manufacturing facilities in Indonesia, driving end-to-end business development across the PV value chain. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by key figures including Nurul Ichwan, Deputy Minister of Investment Promotion; Ngurah Wirawan, President Director of KITB; and Michael Eden, General Counsel of SEG, who delivered opening speeches. They were joined by more than 20 local government officials, including Batang Regional Military Commander Letkol Inf Ahmad Alam Budiman, leaders of Grand Batang City, and SEG’s Indonesian central management team.

Michael Eden, Co-Founder and General Counsel of SEG Solar, said: “As a crucial part of SEG’s overall strategy, we are committed to developing the Indonesian facility into a highly efficient and competitive vertically integrated PV industrial park by optimizing the upstream and downstream layout of the N-type industrial chain. The solar cells and solar panels produced at this industrial park will support the Indonesian government in its carbon emission reduction plan and supply SEG Solar’s ??module factory in Houston, USA, ensuring traceability and reliability of the supply chain.”
