Siemens wants to invest about 80 million GBP in Hull on the English east coast and to manufacture 6 MW wind turbines for offshore wind farm uses. Besides the Japanese competitor Mitsubishi who intends to invest around 100 million GBP in a research and development centre for offshore-technology in Edinburgh, Gamesa and General Electric (GE) also plan the construction of production sites in Great Britain.
Reason for the investments worth millions was the licensing company. “Round 3” of the estate agency Crown Estate. Announcement winners will develop up to 32 GW of offshore- wind power capacities in nine high sea zones in the coming two decades. The amount to be invested are an estimated 75 billion to 80 billion GBP where tenderers are also German companies like E.ON UK, RWE Npower Renewables and Siemens Project Ventures.
