Venezuela pledged at COP 29 to ensure that 30% of electricity generation comes from photovoltaics

The Maduro dictatorship, following the recent electoral fraud and through the Minister for Ecosocialism, Josué Lorca, within the framework of the 29th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held a meeting with the Director General of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), Ajay Mathur, to discuss the importance of Venezuela’s participation within the organization.
“Venezuela’s strategic location makes it an ideal place for photovoltaic generation and the importance of diversifying energy sources to combat the climate crisis and thus work together for a more sustainable future,” said Lorca. “Venezuela is one of the most active and relevant countries in terms of training and technological development in solar energy, as well as in the execution of photovoltaic projects that strengthen the continuity of the electric service and demonstrate the commitment of the government of President Nicolás Maduro to comply with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), established by the UN,” he added.
He indicated that currently 80% of the electric generation in Venezuela comes from hydroelectric sources, and assured that photovoltaic projects are being developed with the objective of reaching 30% of the national generation.
Venezuela is a signatory party of the Framework Agreement on the Establishment of the International Solar Alliance since November 3, 2017, with the intention of emphasizing the commitment to diversify the energy matrix in the country, through the development of clean energies, in order to comply with the Plan de la Patria 2019-2024.
