The university is partnering with General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) and Performance Services on the 100 megawatt wind turbines project. Purdue Research Foundation Senior Vice President Joe Hornett says the impact on sponsored research at the university could be $30 million per year.

Hornett and Performance Services Vice President Scott Zigmond discussed the project on Inside INdiana Business Television. Hornett also says the partnership with GE represents a significant step back into the state by the company.

He believes scientists from all over the world will be able to go to the park to study wind turbines design and the impact on agriculture.

Developers say they still need power purchasing agreements with utility companies, before approaching financiers who may be interested in the project. The concept has been introduced to six Indiana utilities, but so far no agreements have been finalized.
