Enel Green Power increased its wind energy capacity in Greece

Enel Green Power increased its wind power capacity in Greece with the 24 MW “Zoodochos Pighi” wind farm, located in Kozani, Western Macedonia Prefecture and the 14 MW “Panaghia Soumela” wind farm, located in Veria, Central Macedonia Prefecture.

Enel Green Power can count on 45 MW of wind power, hydro and solar power photovoltaic projects as well as additional development opportunities from a 1,400 MW hydro and wind turbines pipeline.

Enel Green Power added the 24 MW “Zoodochos Pighi” and the 14 MW “Panaghia Soumela” wind farms to its Greek wind power portfolio.

Thanks to the 38 MW of the new wind energy plants, respectively located in Kozani, Western Macedonia Prefecture and Veria, Central Macedonia Prefecture, Enel Green Power’s total installed capacity in Greece has now reached 181 MW.

The wind farms –composed of 19 wind turbines of 2 MW each- will produce over 67 million kWh annually, therefore meeting the power needs of over 16,000 households. The clean electricity generated by the plants will cut down greenhouse-gas emissions by more than 74,000 tonnes CO2 per year.

This new addition confirms Enel Green Power’s strategy to actively pursue further growth in the Greek renewable sector. As well as the current installed capacity base, Enel Green Power can count on an additional 45 MW wind, hydro and photovoltaic projects in execution. Enel Green Power can also count on further development opportunities leveraging on a project pipeline in hydro and wind energy of approximately 1,400 MW.

Enel Green Power is the Enel Group company devoted to the development and management of power generation from renewable sources at the international level, with a presence in Europe and the Americas. It is among the industry leaders worldwide thanks to its approximately 22 billion KWh generated from a well balanced energy mix inclusive of water, sun, wind and geothermal sources. This is enough to meet the energy needs of about 8 million households and avoid the emission of more than 16 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. The company’s installed capacity exceeds 6,100 MW, produced by more than 620 plants in operation around the world, with a generation mix that includes wind power, solar power, hydro, geothermal energy and biomass.
