Wind energy in Peru, approved 260 MW wind farm

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) has approved the environmental plan submitted by the local subsidiary of energy company Norwind to build a wind farm in the north, with an investment of 572 million. Chocan Hill wind farm, located in Piura, will generate 260 megawatt and increase electricity supply in a region currently affected by temporary interruptions, caused by inadequate transmission capacity and lower hydroelectric generation.

In the first phase, Norwind install 30 wind turbines with a total capacity of 60 megawatts. Then the company will expand capacity of Cerro Chocan wind farm with another 100 turbines.

The Directorate General of Environmental Affairs Energy (DGAAE) approved the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of Marcona  Wind Farm and Transmission Line that require an investment of 43.64 million dollars. This wind energy project is located in the Marcona district in the province of Ica Nazca region, and will be executed by the company Wind farm Marcona.
