In the latter half of 2011, Cuban experts will promote research on how to better use wind energy as a renewable energy source and reduce damage to the environment. Cuba has wind turbines from Gamesa anda Goldwind.

According to reports, the research is focused on determining the most feasible site for building a new wind farm, preferably in the country’s northeastern zone, which has the best wind currents.

Equipment has been installed around the island to determine wind speed, altitude, and average temperatures, the source stated.

In the last three and a half years, two wind farm in Gibara, in the northeastern province of Holguin, delivered about 30,000 megawatts to the national electricity system, the note stated.

That production saved Cuba more than 5,800 tons of oil and avoided the emission into the atmosphere of 21,000 tons of carbon dioxide.
