New wind energy plant planned for Iowa

Another wind farm is being planned for Franklin County in north-central Iowa. Alliant Energy announced that a subsidiary will own and operate 60 wind turbines that will produce 100 megawatts of electricity. Alliant Energy spokesman Ryan Stensland says that’s enough to power 25,000 homes.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that construction on the $235 million wind power project is expected to begin in 2012. The wind energy facility is expected to be operating by the end of the year.

It will be Alliant Energy’s second wind farm in Franklin County. Another Alliant subsidiary owns the Whispering Willows Wind Farm, a 121 wind turbines wind farm south of Hampton.
