Bolivia turns to wind power

The wind farm project will be launched in Qollpana, Pocona municipality in Cochabamba, at 2,700 meters above sea level. Bolivia prepares for 2013 coming into operation the first wind power generation in the country, with a capacity of 2.5 MW. The wind farm project will be launched in Qollpana, Pocona municipality in Cochabamba, at 2,700 meters above sea level, in order to explore and harness the wind potential of the area.

The State owned electric utility Corani run these jobs, which are expected to help diversify the energy mix and increase the contribution to power generation. Since February 2010 a tower was installed collecting measurement data confirming the existence of sufficient energy.

Feasibility study and optimization of energy production, modeling of the wind farm, design and production have been performed. Now, terms of reference for the acquisition, transportation, erection and commissioning of the wind farm are being written. It is expected that the tender can be launched before the end of this year
