Black Fork Wind Farm Receives Ohio Power Siting Board Permit

Element Power has advanced the project through one of the most rigorous state-level permitting processes in the country. The project is located in Crawford and Richland Counties on approximately 15,000 acres of agricultural land. The approved permit allows Black Fork Wind to select from several turbine technologies giving the project the flexibility to utilize the most competitive technology and provide the best value to the end customer.

The project now moves one step closer to construction with a commercial operations date as early as 2013 and is being actively marketed to customers throughout Ohio and PJM. Extension of the federal Production Tax Credit (PTC) and securing a power sales contract are key for the project to move to construction.

During project construction, approximately 200 people will be employed, providing a significant economic boost to the area, which has experienced a major loss of jobs from plant closures in recent years. During operation, the project is expected to provide 8-12 full-time jobs over its 20- year duration and provide $1.8 million per year to the local communities in tax revenue. In addition, the project will have the ability to generate enough clean electricity for approximately 55,000 homes.
