Wind energy in Ukraine: Vestas Awarded 90 MW wind turbines order for wind farm

Vestas, the world leader in wind energy, is pleased to announce another sale in the key emerging market of Ukraine. Vestas’ newest customer, the DTEK Group, has ordered 30 V112-3.0 MW turbines. These turbines constitute the first part of the Botievo project, which will have a capacity of 195 MW when completed. The Botievo project is located in the coastal area of the Zaporozhye region, near the village of Botievo.

The DTEK Group is the largest privately owned, vertically integrated energy company in Ukraine with a portfolio of coal and electricity generation and sales. DTEK is the energy division of System Capital Management (SCM) holding, one of Ukraine’s leading financial and industrial groups. In 2008, the strategy to develop green energy with focus on the wind energy segment was presented in addition to its core business. At the end of the same year the subsidiary Wind Power was founded with the purpose of developing, constructing and operating wind farms in Ukraine.

The order includes supply, installation and commissioning of 30 V112-3.0 MW wind turbines, along with a VestasOnline® Business SCADA system. A service agreement is under negotiation. The project is scheduled to be competed in the fourth quarter of 2012.

“After intensive negotiations we are confident that Vestas, the global leader in wind energy solutions, is the reliable partner for our project in Botievo. We’ve found the necessary technology, experience and knowledge for our project. The V112 turbine allows an efficient energy production and gives us justified return on investment,” says CEO of Wind Power LLC, Guerman Ainbinder. “We have full confidence in the business case of our Botievo project and also in the future of our total wind generation portfolio.”

“It is a pleasure to announce that we have sold 30 V112 turbines in the Ukrainian market,” says Dr. Wolfgang J. Schmitz, President of Vestas Central Europe. “Ukraine is a promising wind market with excellent wind resources and we are proud to see the second order in this country for our versatile and high-performing V112. We are also proud to provide our experience and quality in being a full-service partner to DTEK Group as we support their vision to further develop Ukraine’s wind energy sector.”
